Providing telehealth services to residents of
California, Michigan and Indiana
Frequently Asked Questions
General
No. Some insurance providers will offer a partial reimbursement for therapy. I encourage you to contact your provider to find out if this is an option for you. If it is, I do offer a monthly superbill for you if you should decide to submit a claim for partial reimbursement.
Because insurance reimbursements require a diagnosis and treatment code, these items will be listed in your superbill.
Benefits of not using insurance include:
Your number of therapy sessions is not limited by insurance companies.
You are not limited to certain service providers.
Your records are not subject to insurance audit.
No diagnosis to share with third party.
Most individual sessions last 50 minutes. However, if a client prefers longer due to deeper and/or sensitive content being discussed, 75 or 90 minute sessions are offered if schedules allow.
Couples sessions are 50 minutes unless the couple and therapist agree that more time is beneficial. In that case, prorated 75 minute or 90 minute sessions may be offered if schedules allow.
The first session is an initial assessment and orientation to the therapeutic process. During this session, the therapist will gather relevant information about your presenting concerns, symptom history, psychosocial background, and current functioning. This may include questions about mood, relationships, stressors, medical and mental health history, and any prior treatment.
You will also review informed consent, confidentiality, and practice policies prior to this session through the client portal sent in your welcome email. The therapist will explain their therapeutic approach, discuss potential goals for treatment, and begin to develop a preliminary understanding of your needs. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and clarify expectations.
This session is primarily focused on information gathering, establishing rapport, and determining an appropriate direction for ongoing treatment.
This will depend on the condition being treated, whether working with an individual or a couple. Generally, once the treatment plan has been established in our first session, an estimate will be given as to what timeframe can be expected to reach your treatment goals. Your progress made will be regularly reviewed, to make sure we stay aligned with the timeline, or make adjustments as needed.
